    What (prime) lens for portraits?

I ended up ordering a Nikkor 85/1.8 and it arrived yesterday - so far I love it, definitely super sharp, and I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything. Plus, it really seems like the most lens for the money (out of the options I had). Thanks for all your input! :)

    What (prime) lens for portraits?

I originally looked at the 105/2.8 Micro but later dismissed it after hearing mixed reviews on it. Maybe I was too quick to judge - I'll do a bit more research. Thanks!

    What (prime) lens for portraits?

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! I actually already have a 70.200/2.8 but I find it too heavy and hard to handle for most portrait sessions. That's why I'm looking for something a bit smaller. I'll definitely check out more reviews on the 85/1,8, thanks!

    What (prime) lens for portraits?

Thanks for your feedback, much appreciated! I'll definitely check out more comparisons of the 85mm's. The one you linked is great. As for the focal length, I only do portraits outdoors so the 105mm or 135mm wouldn't really be an issue since I'm not limited in space or room. Should've mentioned...

    What (prime) lens for portraits?

I'm currently on the hunt for a new prime lens to use mainly for portraits. It will replace my Nikkor 35/1,8 and be a complement to a 28-75/2,8 and a 70-200/2,8. The 35/1,8 I find too wide for portraits, plus I barely use it since switching to FX since it's a DX lens. I'm using a Nikon D600...

    The Web

Excellent! I'm slightly questioning the composition, I'd like to see a little less space to the right. That'd place the web a bit more to the right, and make it less centered. But I really like it as it is, too. Lovely bokeh.

    Line between...

The contrail is what makes this image stand out from being just a plain, normal "lonesome-tree-in-the-distance"-shot imho. I really like it, it comes across as quite striking to me. I love how the clouds fade in from the left, while there's slightly more trees visible in the bottom right corner...

Beautiful shot! Very aesthetically pleasing. I love the motion and the flow in this. If I had to find something I would change, I'd try to get the amount of black on either side of the bird to be the same. Right now the front of the wings (right side) are almost touching the edge of the image...

Very dynamic! I like it. I agree with weepete though, about the transition.

Do you ever use full auto, creative auto, effect, or any preset setting?

M (manual). I went from using all auto everything straight to M back in 2008 if I remember correctly. I think I've used A, S or P less than 5 times since then... I'm not sure why, I just got used to it and now it's the most comfortable thing to do. ... although sometimes if I'm lazy and just...

    Opinion of Nikon in general

... Or maybe Nikon users are so satisfied with their gear that they can't resist but to buy new stuff all the time - and to fit it all in their collection/afford it, they're forced to sell their old stuff. :)

    Opinion of Nikon in general

I've had three Nikon DSLRs so far - D50 (purchased in 2006), D200 (2008) and now a D600 (2013). All three cameras have worked perfectly for as long as I've had them. I still use both my D50 and D200 from time to time - no issues. I've also had absolutely no problems with spots/dust/oil/whatever...

Snowy Afternoon with the Furry Boys

I really like all of these! The exposure looks great. Shooting in snow is only like, the most difficult thing ever. We get about 6 months of winter a year over here in Sweden - I know how tricky it can be. :)

Tamron 28-75/2.8 - old or new model?

Thanks! I'm sure I will. And yeah, I'm trying at least. :) Sold off my fisheye to afford the 28-75, hopefully it'll be worth the swap.
