18-55mm kit lens replacement

Hi

I have a Canon 20D with the standart 18-55mm kit lens.

I would like to get a better lense to replace this one. It should do more or less the same but take sharper images and be a bit faster for low light situations.

I trying to find out what other people replaced their kit lens with and if they are happy with the lens they chose. So please let me know your experience.

I went with a Canon 17-85 with IS. Its a good lens, I couldnt beat the price, but its not the fastest at 4-5.6. If you can swing it buy the 17-55 2.8 with the IS that Canon makes, wow, that would be awsome (theres also sigma and tamron with similar lens ie 17-50 2.8). But I like the extra reach of the 85 over the 55. If I could do it up right, I would roll a 10-22, 24-70, and 70-200. But thats in a perfect world with and extra three grand hanging around. Let us know how you made out.

Yeah, sigma and Tamron have 18-55s with a constant 2.8 max aperture.
