1st attempt attempt at leaf

hello everyone, i just got my fz5 few weeks back and i'm loving it whenever i hold it. i'm very new to photography and i must admit i have more to learn. please give me critiques and comments.

I disagree. Macro shots like this need the blurry background to get the subject to pop out, and is a generally accepted practice, not to mention nearly impossible to capture otherwise.

Fairly good depth of field, although you are really close to capturing the whole leaf in focus. If you can, I might have brought the dept of focus slightly more toward the camera, as having the front edge soft kind of distracts me.
