Is there such a thing as an auto/manual focus lens in the entry level or intermediate level that would work well with the Canon 50D camera?

For 50D, 24mm may not be too wide. The field of view will be similar to the 35mm focal length on a film camera. And that is the reason most of the cropped sensor camera shipped with a zoom lens with the wide side on 18mm (have a similar field of view of a 28mm on film camera)

So if you are looking for a standard zoom lens that cover the field of view similar to 24mm-80mm lens on a film camera, you need to look for 17-50mm lens such as

EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM (or the non STM version) (Kit lens that usually shipped with lower end Canon DSLR)
EF-S18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - Canon Camera Museum

EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM
EF-S17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM - Canon Camera Museum

Or 3rd party lenses

Tamron SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD (This is my go to lens for my 7D)
TAMRON | SP 17-50mm F/2.8 Di II LD

Tamron SP 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC
TAMRON | SP 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di II VC

Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM
17-50mm F2.8 EX DC (OS)* HSM | Sigma Corporation of America

There are some other lenses which cover a wider range of focal lengths.

EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM
EF-S18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM - Canon Camera Museum

Keep in mind that the 50D being APS sized it can use any canon EF or EF-s mount lens.
(You cant do that with the FF cameras.)

BUT, that opens up a YYYUUUUUGGGGEEEEEEE assortment of lenses to you.

Looking at keep in mind RESEARCH a whole host of lenses. but remember what your going to use it for.
if just street walking type photography then the 18-135 will work just fine.
I have one and the wife has one.
They work very well.
