I have a Nikon D90
and am using a Sigma 28-200mm D aspherical IF.

I seem to always, or most of the time, get a false low battery reading.
Never happens with my other lenses, though all the others are prime.
But it doesn't happen with my Nikkor telephoto.

I've read before that it is because it is 3rd party, and it's a firmware problem? maybe?
It was very unclear what I read, and I have no clue where I read it.

I use to have a Tamron 28-200 but traded it for this Sigma.
The Tamron also seemed to have that problem once in a while.

It seems I can shoot when the lens is at it's widest, but once I zoom in, my camera will say my battery is low.

Any explanations?

Never heard of that before.

But it sounds like you can predict when it will happen, so as long as you know it's a false reading...it shouldn't be to bothersome.

But it essentially takes half the lens market away from me

It's super bothersome cause it renders this lens useless

Nobody else has this problem?
bump.

Reading (and Googling) other forums outside our site indicates a high frequency of connection problems at fault. Remove the lens and thoroughly clean the contacts on the lens and camera body both. Then try mounting and remounting the lens a few times. This appears to solve around 80% of similar reports, and it makes sense that poor connections, especially when "changing" or "moving" the lens, might be the culprit.
