Very nice! .... especially if you are looking at it as a collector or something to have.

It is pretty well known that the 50mm f1.4 beats that lens in all categories except max aperature ( and price ). With the new 50mm f1.2L out, it will be a hard sell.

Ya, I've heard that as well...but woudn't it be fun to have a $5000 50mm lens? ;)

What's the point? Is one extra stop worth $4650? I guess this one is for collectors only.

often you get more than the extra stop, but also a higher quality optical performance stopped down one or two stops than lenses which start at 1.2 or 1.4

if you really need shallow DOF, then such a lens is the way to go.

and for some artsy images ultra-shallow DOF is great

Oh I didnt think that max aperture affected other apertures.

Actually now that i think about it I should have figured that out. Lenses get sharper as you stop them down, so f/1.4 on the 1.0 lens is better than f/1.4 on the 1.4 lens, right?

so f/1.4 on the 1.0 lens is better than f/1.4 on the 1.4 lens, right?

i do not know the specific lens we talk about here .. but generally speaking this is often the case!

If I could comfortably afford that, why settle for something as slow as f1.0? Give me an f0.75... and a Sherpa to carry it

From what I've read...this is basically a collectors item. The 50mm F1.4 is much better...as is, I'm sure...the new 50mm F1.2 L.

errm, ok, i never usede that lens. but good to know.

as for the 1.2 ... well if i would not have better uses for that money.. I'd get it *drool*

Sooooo..... you're interested in fast lenses, eh?

There's only one in production right now, and guess who makes it:

50mm f/1.0

LL Review

And it is so sharp you actually still end up with a usable depth of field. But then again, so are all of their lenses.... makes you wonder what all the fuss about L lenses is about....

The Noctilux transmits light more effectively than even the human eye, and as the world's first production f/1.0 lens for 35 mm photography, it represents a landmark in the history of photography.

Or, as they describe it:
Probably more than any other Leica lens, and possibly more than any lens period, the Noctilux is an object of fascination, dare I say cult worship among a segment of the Leica community, that borders on fetishism.
