So far it has been great. I have only been experimenting with it but loving it's possibilities. I went shopping for a 35mm, but after comparing the two, the 50mm out did the 35 in every category except wideangle, so that's what I got.
Well I had a real weird one today, I got a call from a guy that I did some work for a couple of years back, I fixed his laptop for him. Apparently his brother was having some issues with his desktop and he was wondering if I could take a look at it. I explained to him that I really don't do that sort of thing anymore, I got out of the business a while ago - but he asked me if I could make an exception. Turns out his brother is going through a divorce at the moment, his wife served him with papers the week before Christmas of all things.
Well she moved out and moved in with the guy she's been running around with, but I guess she stopped by recently to pick up a few things while the guy's brother was at work. She grabbed whatever she considered her stuff, and then decided she'd open up his PC and pour a soda all over the inside of it. Ya, needless to say it was pretty much a paperweight.
So I go look at it tonight after work and the PC itself is pretty much completely trashed and the poor guy can't really afford a replacement right now, with divorce proceedings coming up and legal fees and such - well he's not in great shape at the moment. Well the thing is I can relate, I went through a divorce myself so I know where the guy is at and I really felt for him. I still had a bunch of stuff in the basement from my last upgrade, so I told him not to worry about it. I'd put together a system for him out of what I had and he could have it, I mean the stuff was just collecting dust anyway and though I had thought about putting it up on
ebay in the end I figured I'd just hang onto it for emergency purposes rather than go through the hassle of selling and shipping it.
So I get home and get a machine put together for him, he calls me up and asks me if he can make payments on it. I explain to him that I'm not going to take payments, I'm just going to give it to him - it's just stuff that's collecting dust in my basement that I have no use for, etc.. etc.
Well he insists on giving me something for it, then he asks me if I could use a camera. Well by now I figured he wasn't going to give it up so I said sure, I would love to have a camera. That way I figured he could just trade me a whatever little point and shoot he had on hand for the PC I just built and he wouldn't feel like he was getting charity.
So I'll pick up the point and shoot on Sunday when I drop off the system, no idea what brand it is or anything else yet but if nothing else I figure the kid might get some use out of it. Who knows, might even toss it in the glove compartment for when I don't have the DSLR on me.
