52 or 58 mm adapter for S5IS

Hi! I have a Canon S5. I dont have any lenses or anything for it yet and I want to buy a lens adapter and filter. I am wondering which is better the 52mm or the 58mm. I dont really know the difference but see that it comes in both. Which would be the better way to go in the long run? Thanks for any help you can give!
