here look at this simple logic

lets start with .999 now we all know that dosent =1
unless you round it up or add .001
now

lets try

.999999999999999999999999999999

now that still dosent =1 because we need to round up or add .00000000000000000000000000001

now we try

.9999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999

this is still not 1 because we need to round up or add

its true thats the exact point u need

k now lets try an infinit amount of 9s

.999999999999999999999999- forever

ok this still dosent equle 1 because
you need to add a .0000000000 forever and a 1 at the end

do you get it now?

You can't mix real and imaginary numbers in that way and get a meaningful answer. There's no such number as infinity minus one.

as an engineering tech, i say that .9999999999999999999 mine as well be 1. if you dont understand why, try and cut an aluminum sheet at .9999999999999 inches. if you can do that and find a way to measure that accurate you are my hero.

Being a carpenter (joiner over here!) I'd say that .8 = 1!

Anything within 1/16th inch is good enough! :)

buahahahahahhhhaa :D that's right :D

.99 repeating=1
Just as .66 repeating=2/3

Clarinet... What do you study?! I noticed some really "mathematical" posts of yours :p

ey... they are not nerds... they are smart... same as me :D

Nah..they're math nerds. They'll tell ya the same. We've even had discussions as to who is nerdier. I think they've settled on "equally nerdy".

Oh, and I should mention that there is nothing wrong with nerds. In fact, I think they're pretty damn cute. :greenpbl:

Ok, now I have to figure out a post for 12000 so I can stop deleting old useless posts in order to post again w/out wasting my 12000.
