It was rather abrupt, hence the snapshot outlook. I'm interested in seeing if it "pops" in B&W.

Thanks for looking!

It certainly does.

Top it off, if you can by cloning out the earphones. Might give the subject a more reflective look.

What country is this? That sentry appears to be armed with a Mauser K98

Thanks, Kevin.

Efergoh, it was in Sweden. The rifle, your knowledge of weaponry impressed me. I believe Mauser K98 is a possible answer. I have asked some professional people and will let you know once they get back to me. Here's a close-up image:

Ah. The K98 was a German rifle. The Swede Mausers were called the M96 as in the Model of 1896 chambered for 6.5x55 whereas the N@zi's K98 was 8x57.

The Swedes were able to keep top shelf quality control throughout their production where the Germans quality dropped off a bit toward the end of WWII. I've had Yugoslavian, Spanish, Brazillian (made in Germany for Brazil) and German mausers. I have yet to aquire any Swede mausers. they have become kind of rare in the states, but are highly coveted.

Högvakten, the Swedish Royal Guards, had my question unanswered, apparently for security reasons. But after I talked with some Swedes here, I'm now almost certain the rifle is the Swedish Mauser m/96. When Mauser manufactured m/96 in Germany, it was required that Swedish steel be used.

I once came to see von Hallwyl's family house (now is a musuem) in Stockholm where a large private collection of rifles was on display. Here's an online site you can find more info. Maybe someday you will visit.
