I like the first shot better than the second, it just works better in landscape, in my mind

That is what I was thinking! The landscape shot shows more colours from the sunset, as well as more silouette of the ship/people!!!

I agree...the people in the second one are right where the most interesting point in the sky are...at least that's my opinion. I really like the second one though.
