If you're not getting tack sharp photos, it might not be your technique - it might be your lens!

Camera lenses are complex machines with a lot of moving parts. Each lens has slight variances to the exact spot where light is being focused onto the sensor. Due to these variances (or just due to heavy wear & usage), your lens may be front-focusing or back-focusing. To put it simply, your lens may not be focusing on the right
spot, which results in blurry photos.

However, with a lens calibration tool like the Focus Pyramid, you're able to quickly figure out which of your lenses are having a focus issue. Then, without having to recalibrate your lens, you can get tack sharp focus just by adjusting a few focus settings in your DSLR.

If you have a DSLR that does not have those focus settings, or you don't want to switch settings every time you switch lenses, don't worry! You've now identified which lenses need to be sent in to the manufacturer for recalibration.
