about to buy a lens and i need quick advice

I found a decent lens for a really low price, and I'm about to buy it via craigslist. of course, I'll check it for fungus and such, but my question is this

I'm pretty sure it wont come with lens caps, so what would be a good quick fix so it doesnt get scratched in my bag? I have to catch a few buses while it's in my bag, and by bag I mean oversized purse/tote. I was thinking saran wrap and rubber bands

any help?

Lens caps are only a few dollars...why not just buy one?
Or do you mean that you are going to pick it up...and you don't want to damage it in transit?

I would think that any piece of fabric would work...a shirt, a sock...a pair of underoos.

a shirt sounds better than my crazy saran wrap plan. i was thinking of buying lens caps before i went, but i guess the lens i want came in a bunch of different series's and have different filter thread sizes
