Well, I should think that this is how the stone masons from 80 years ago interpreted "sad" ... they did not know the expression "stoned", not like that and not in the German language. Though I am sure that laudanum was well known among those who could later afford to get themselves this kind of grave markers.

Thanks for the comments ... I went through a couple of old files of mine (ever so many have never even been converted, let alonge worked at, how slack am I? Or how busy with commissioned photos?), that's how I found this one again.
