Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Is Adobe Camera Raw free? I tried downloading the latest update but couldn't get it to load. I wasn't sure if I needed ACR before I got the update?? Sorry if this is a stupid question. Just trying to make the jump finally from shooting JPEG to RAW. Thanks!

No, it's not free. It's a part of PhotoShop CS

And a part of Lightroom 3, and a de-featured part of Elements 10.

ACR first appeared in Photoshop 7.

The current version of Photoshop (Photoshop 12) is part of Creative Suite 5, and is often called CS5.

Thanks for the info. I use PSE 9, any suggestions on how open my RAW files then since I don't have PS or LR3?

Photoshop Elements 9 has ACR in it.

You can't get the newest version of ACR with elements 9. The last version of ACR compatible with elements 9 supported the Nikon d5100 and the Nikon d7000 (pretty sure) - I don't remember the other cameras supported in that version but if your camera came out within the past 6-9 months then it probably isn't supported.

If you double click on a raw file in the elements organizer it should open camera raw. Or go to open as - choose file - then change bottom drop down box to camera raw (you can open JPEGS in ACR this way also). If your camera isn't supported you can download adobes DNG converter and convert all your raw files to DNG. ACR will open those.

Elements 9 can use Adobe Camera Raw version 6.3 - don't know if that is why it wouldn't work for you. You can find the various versions of ACR here: Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Windows . You can also check here for instructions and what is covered in this version: Adobe - Photoshop Elements : For Windows : Camera Raw 6.3 update for Elements I would recommend that you update from this site - which says that it is an update, so maybe you would have to have a previous version of ACR to install this. You should have one that came with the PSE 9 when you acquired it - PSE 9 comes with ACR 6.1, so you should have it somewhere. I would suggest that you follow their instructions on how to "update" to ACR 6.3

For Photoshop Elements 9 customers, we recommend that you install Camera Raw 6.3 by selecting Updates from the Help menu and follow the on-screen dialogs to download and install the latest available Camera Raw update. You can also click the link below to download an installer that replaces the existing Camera Raw plug-in with Camera Raw 6.3 for all Elements 9 products. (From their web page)

If this doesn't work, then you may try posting here, as this is an ACR forum: Adobe Forums: Forum: Adobe Camera Raw . HTH.
Cheers,

WesternGuy
