Hi,

While on my last vacation my kit lens was stolen right off the body of my D90. I am going on another vacation in a couple weeks and need a replacement. I want something that compliments my current lens in a way. Right now I have a Nikon 50mm 1.8, a Nikon 35mm 1.8, and a Tamron 70-300mm 4-5.6. I should admit I hardly use the 70-300mm. The lens that was lost was the kit 18-105mm, and I used it a lot.

I am looking at several lenses, each for a different reason. I am keeping in mind that I will be backpacking through south-east asia for 6 weeks.

In no particular order these are the lenses:

- Nikon 10-24 3.5-4.5 I just like the idea of a wide angle during my travels, but I'm afraid it is not practical. And it isn't exactly replacing what I lost and used a lot of the time. I don't like the price of this one so much, it is the most expensive of all the lenses, but you pay for good lenses (i think)!?

- Nikon 16-85 3.5-5.6 I like the price of this one compared to a few others. Also, I like that it is a semi wide-angle and mid-zoom, making it more of a replacement for what I lost. Will the 16mm make enough of a difference between the 18mm's I'm looking at? Could I get away with not carrying my heavy zoom lens? Also, I am one of those people who like to take hand held photos of my fiancé and I, so I enjoy the semi-wide angle lenses for this reason as well.

- Nikon 18-200 3.5-5.6 This is what I have always had in mind (before I looked at different lenses) for the perfect travel lens. It would allow me to ditch the big and heavy 70-300mm that I hardly use. Making my 'kit' much lighter to be carrying around for 6 weeks. It is a bit pricey which makes me wonder if it is worth the extra money to get this over simply getting another kit 18-105mm?

- Nikon 18-105 3.5-5.6 Like I mentioned above, this is the most cost efficient option. I don't have anything to say about it though, it did the job I guess.

- Nikon 85 1.8 I have a thing for prime lenses. I think my 35mm and 50mm are great lenses and use them every day now. Could this replace a mid-zoom to zoom lens? And this would leave me without a semi-wide angle lens like the 16mm-, and the 18mm-. It would not allow me to take hand held self-portraits. I do have a remote and gorilla pod I could use even more.

Any advice/opinions will be very helpful, I have been going back and forth for some time now and decided to join this website just so I can post about my indecisiveness. I should add I'm not too keen on bringing the 70-300mm backpacking because it doesn't seem to be a great lens and I'm afraid I won't use it. Do you think I should use it more?

If you read all of this, thank you!!
