AF lens

The D80 has a motor in the body, and can focus AF or AF-D lenses. With an AF-S lens from Nikon, the focusing motor is in the lens, and a D80 can use that lens with autofocusing provided by the lens.

The 'baby' Nikons - D40, D40x, D60, D3x00 series and D5x00 series - were produced to appeal to women by being smaller than Nikon's other DSLRs.
To make them smaller Nikon eliminated the AF motor and screw-drive system those cameras. Those cameras AF using AF-S lenses.

All other Nikon DSLRs have an AF motor and screw-drive system in the camera body.

Your D80 will auto focus Af, AF-D, AF-P, and AF-S lenses. With AF and AF-D lenses, it focuses with the screw drive motor in the camera body and with AF-S and AF-P lenses it focuses with the motor built into the lens.

Man, seeing Keith's post there.... What a reminder. It's so strange having never met the guy, but still grieving in a way.
