All decent Landscape photography is carried out with a wide angle lens? A myth!

Some of the best landscapes I've seen have been stitched panos with 200mm lens.

I like the way the wide lens works however I was speaking with a professional and he told me he never uses wide angle and always uses his 70-200 for the reason that when he wants to crop later if using a wide angle he looses image size plus he does not like the distortion of a wide lens. If he uses his 70-200 he can zoom to where he would want to crop with much better image quality or larger print. He also said that there are many times he wants to get closer but can not because of his surroundings. This is where you need a zoom lens to take you closer to your subject. I completely understand and in time will look to purchase a 70-200 for many many other shooting situations. it seems as though it is a very good lens to have and is more versatile.

With that said I think its just personal preference. There is not just one way to things in many walks of life....So yeah I agree with OP that wide lens is not theeeee one and only lens to use for landscapes.
