Out for a walk today and still some roses are hanging on. We've had a couple frosts but tomorrow night comes a good hard freeze.

Your title jogged my memory.....a beutiful metaphor for the sadness of being left to carry on alone after the people we care for have gone.

The Last Rose
Thomas Moore

Tis the last rose of summer,
Left blooming alone.
All her lovely companions
Are faded and gone.
No flow'r of her kindred,
No rosebud is nigh,
To reflect back her blushes
Or give sigh for sigh.
I'll not leave thee thou lone one
To pine on the stem,
Since the lovely are sleeping
Go sleep thou with them;
Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o'er the bed,
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.
So soon may I follow
When friendships decay,
And from loves' shining circle
The gems drop away!
When true hearts lie withered
And fond ones are flown
Oh! Who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

Nice looking roses but I'm a little puzzled, is that some sort of effect or just noise?
That's simulated film grain -- maybe a little heavy handed. I find it helps smooth out some blotchiness in the flower petals.

Yep, that's the reference -- morose Irish poetry best appreciated with a bottle of whiskey in hand.

It's a nice shot. My eyes are immediately drawn to the one in the foreground. The grain hearkens back to a time when grain was common in photos.
