I have a unique photo of the World Trade Centers taken before September 11. I've searched the internet and see nothing like my image.
I am not a pro, nor do I have an interest in starting a photography business, but I would like to sell this one photo.
I think it is poster/print quality and will have wide appeal.
Any ideas appreciated.

Then you would want to license the use of your image so it can be sold over-and-over again. I wonder if you have looked for similar images at the major stock web sites like Getty Images, Corbis, and at all the microstock agencies.

You could set-up your own stock photo web site for the image, or you could contract with one of the major stocks sites mentioned above (not microstock).

You will need a good understanding of the differences between Rights Managed (RM) stock photography use licensing and Royalty-Free (RF) stock photography use licensing.

There are some legal considerations you should be aware of.

First and foremost, you need to register your copyright of the image with the US Copyright office. You own the copyright to that photo for the rest of your life, plus 70 years, so any earnings from it can accure to your heirs.

Read the Copyright FAQ's and How To Register a work here at www.copyright.gov .

Then read: Legal ABC for stock photographers | Yuri Arcurs

and here is some info about microstock: Microstock Agencies – An Overview for Beginners | Yuri Arcurs

Thank you very much for taking the time to post your helpful reply.

I have searched all the major photo banks and have found nothing like my photo. It was taken from Brooklyn Heights as I walked to work one November morning in the mid 1990's. The light was hitting the towers just right and they looked so...ephemeral. The photo looks prophetic, in retrospect, and so unbelievable that I'm sure people will think it's photoshopped!
I saw 9/11 personally from my workshop in Brooklyn Heights, so the photo has deep meaning for me personally.
Thanks again for your advice.

How about posting up a small and low resolution version of it here - - and maybe get some feedback on its "uniqueness"?

That's why one needs to understand the differences between RM and RF use licensing.
