If your a ''noob'' and you wanting to jump into using longer focal lengths to capture fast situations like ice hockey, IS will be a big help.

I'm surprised that after 4 pages nobody has picked up on this, but image stabilization will NOT help you at all getting good ice hockey photos. Image Stabilization is great, don't get me wrong I have it on most of my canon lenses and find it indispensible at times, but in sports it is often close to useless. You need a fast shutter speed to capture sports action. For this you need fast glass (f/2.8 or faster lenses) and/or a good high ISO camera. IS doesn't make a difference to the shutter speed, it just allows you hold the camera steady for longer so that when your shutter speed is too slow the shot will still come out sharp - as long as nothing in the frame is moving.

Also, it seems that enelpoos are the most recommended batteries for the k-x. It is true that they are 1.2V cells (typical of rechargeables) whereas ordinary non-rechargeable AA's are 1.5V. I've never encountered a case where this has been a problem though. Check out this thread:
Battery for K-x (and other cameras that take AA's) - PentaxForums.com

you are right, I did not read that sentence with attention. IS is aimed at your own hand movement only.
