Ant Gossip

My first macro attempt, saw some ants today and thought I would have a go with my zoom - took several pics but this is the one that has stood up best to the cropping, enlarging, denoising and sharpening..

are these just like the fire ants in florida

are these just like the fire ants in florida

From my research these are, I believe, a type of Weaver ant. If so then although some people refer to them as a type of fire ant because the bite is painful and colouration similar they are not actually of the same genus and so technically not a member of that family.

Very nice! One of the things I like about my Tamron 18-400mm is that you can zoom at 400mm at nine inches distance, and it gives my Sigma 105mm Macro a good run.
