Anyone into Bonsai?

He's so cute! I still can't believe he's going to be a year old!

Didn't any of you people see the first Karate Kid movie? Mr. Miagi (sp?) had them all over the place.

I've always wanted to research bonsais and get into it, too. You'll have to update us after a while..maybe you'll inspire me! :)

One of my mates is really into Japanese gardens, next time i'm over at his place and the season is right i'll photograph some of the trees. :) He's got a Bonsai growing on the back verandah, always tending to it...has all the pruning tools to go with it. :)

I should get back into it before my trees die I guess. I came home one day last year to find Abby had eaten an Elm.

You thought about getting him a Ficus? It'll never die and if he (you ;) ) gets bored again you can always have it as a house plant.

Bonsai, in a very simple terms, is just a plant in a pot. But what it is now-a-days is a small tree or shrub in a pot which you control and shape by trimming its branches and roots to conform to basic styles. It's not hard once you've got the basics down. Obviously different species are tougher and are harder to kill than others. And you can make it as hard or as easy on yourself as you like.

Oak's are ok, but they take a long time to grow and they have large leaves. With bonsai you want to get those leaves as small as you can through a couple of techinque as massive leaves on a small tree look odd. With Oak they'll always be pretty big so you'll need a large tree to start with.

It depends what they are. Some require more care than others.

Of course when you come home to find a smashed pot has been picked up and put on the table, yet no sign of the tree and the person who picked up the pot doesn't say anything.... Yeah, dog ate the tree. I liked that one to. *sniffle*

Then there are squirrels, who love to bury their nutsin the pots. You can find new trees growing in your pots because of that. Providing they haven't wrecked the roots. ;)

And now Abby isbrushing myarm with her nose and making me all itchy as I type. It's ahrd to be mad.

And now her chin is on my leg. I think she wants a cuddle.
