I'm in the market for lenses for my XSi. I've got the stocker, and a 70-200L, and would like something to cover other aspects of photography. Is it worth it to buy the 28mm 1.8 Canon wideview if I'm putting it on the XSi? I hear the 1.6 crop just turns it into a 35mm mimic, so in reality, I'm only buying it for its nice aperture?

Thanks in advance!

It depends upon what your wide lens requirements are. 28mm was not wide enough for my needs.
28mm x 1.6 = 44.8mm
28mm / 1.6 = 17.5mm

Canon makes a few dedicated wide lenses for crop sensor bodies. Two of the best would be the EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 and EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS. They will only mount on to 1.6 crop bodies though, so keep that in mind if you intend to buy a 5D or 1D in the future. If you're looking for wide on a 1.6, you don't really have any other options, but they are both really great lenses.
