You are right.

As long as you believe you cannot do it, you never will.

"Artists" like this only exist so that we can idolize them. I don't really get the point of it.

With Ball Point Pens

Don't get me wrong I can push out a good sketch. But Ball Point Pens?

Here is one I did in charcoal last year from a scene in the Movie "Hero"

But charcoal is significantly simpler medium than Ball point. Plus my proportions get distorted. So my work never looks like the original.

Here is an article that shows the photo this artist worked from.

I would have to use a grid or a light table to pull off that kind of accuracy. Not being down on myself I just know my limitations.

I know what you mean. If I can't start and finish an art project in a single sitting it will never get done.

You set your own imaginary limitations.

Read the FAQ's...

Q: Are you a professional Artist?
A: No, I'm just a lawyer, art is just a hobby for me, although it takes from 5 to 50 hours to finish each drawing. I started drawing when I was 2.

So you are arguing that he is not an artist?

Yes, that's what I'm doing. I'm arguing that he's not an artist because I said "READ THE FAQ's".

I thought it was humorous that a person of his talent states he isn't a professional artist, but a lawyer.

Yeah, I read that. Humble as he may be. He is still an artist and I am still jealous.

I do wonder though if he does this freehand or if he traces. Would be all the more miraculous if it were freehand. Though I knew a lady once who did these wall size drawings of praying manti that were insanely detailed. And she used a grid to get the precision detail. Didn't make them any less amazing. Kind of jaw dropping to enter a room and have a massive praying mantis towering over you.

I say he's not an artist. He's an amazing illustrator, but not an artist.

What does it matter what a person is in the first place...

it matters in the results and how the results are viewed.
