So, my girlfriend and I are having a chat about artsy pictures...and she says to me...

"Artsy is easy. Just look serious...and do something stupid during the editing stage."

I said "No...there's more to it than that."

So she grabbed the camera and told me how to stand and look. Then she went to photoshop and this is what she did:

At first I as like..."See....it takes more than just Bang Bang!"

And then I started looking at it some more and it grew on me.

Does it work...or no?

Sorry, it does nothing for me.

I'll say there's a difference between "ARTSY" and "WEIRD". I have this issue with some fellow artists here in my city. My wife is an artist, she paints expressionist and folk art paintings. Our local art community is full of so called "Tortured Souls" that paint weird stuff and they have been frowning on her art because the have the feeling that to be called "ART" it has to be weird and the product has to be difficult to interpret, making the artist a complex person because the art is strange.

Funny thing is that on our latest art exhibit, only her paintings sold... LOL

Yep nothing here as well.. Keep at it! You'll come up with something!!

I've never seen a photoshop effect that I thought was artsy. Almost every "artsy" photomanip I've ever seen has just made me want to wash my eyes out.

If you got about this as "artsy" - i.e. in that self-same ironical meaning (which the word has to me, but then English is not my first language so it might not carry the connotation that the ending -sy is giving it to my mind), then this PS effect might have achieved the effect.

Whether this effect is creating "art" ... I don't know... not for me, no, it does not.

Me thinks you didn't read my entry. The girlfriend seems to think you can just "Click Click" in Photoshop in order to create something artistic.

My argument is that there is a lot more conceptualization that goes on. You can't just "Click Click" in Photoshop.

This was her attempt to prove me wrong.

Just thought I would 'set the record straight." ;)

Yes, got what you wre saying from the start, but I still feel we should distinguish between "artsy" and "a piece of art".
I may be getting it wrong, but the word "artsy" sounds like whoever calls his own pic this is poking a bit of fun at himself with the expression, is not all serious about calling that pic "a piece of art".
And under that aspect your girlfriend may even be right...

She was using the word interchangeably with "artistic."

However...I would agree that something like this would be more Artsy Fartsy....a quasi mockery of an artistic thing.

But...with that said...and perhaps I am just like a proud boyfriend...I have grown to sort of like this thing. But it could be because I am all "Awww...look what my very linear minded girlfriend did!"
