Should this be in the product photography area?
If you think so, then please move it :-P

A Todd McFarlane Spawn figure, I have loads of them.

Thought it would be a nice item to practice with my lights.

Shot at ISO100, 125/f11.
50mm 1.8 prime lens.
Single Bowen Gemini II 500 with reflector umbrella.

I guess I'm looking for tips on where I could improve and overall thoughts. Do you think the highlights are too much? Should I have gone for a soft box and diffused the light to be softer?

I used a single flash unit set at 75% which was about 25° to the right of my camera. It was slightly aiming down at the figure, but not too much else his hat would have shadowed his face.

Post-processing work was:
Resized.
Bordered.
Logo added.
Cloned out the highlights from the stand which kept him balanced.
Thats it.

I think it looks pretty good, but you could try it with a softbox and see how it turns out. It might turn out better, or it might not. But either way, I think this is a ptretty good shot.

Yeh.
I know it's going to be a "try different set-ups" sort of subject and see what I think is best.

Can a Mod move this to the "product photography" area please.
I think I'll be able to get more feedback from that area. :)

I was attempting to do that on some shots, but i was struggling because of the size and the space I had to work with.

i like it but likeeveryone else fix the lighting so he contrasts a bit better
