B&W Conversion With GIMP

Hi all,

Only just downloaded GIMP today, but I thought (while I'm downloading the helpfiles on dial up) I'd just ask what's the best way to convert to a B&W in GIMP - I noticed theres a few ways of going the normal monotone/greyscale conversions - but I was wondering if there's somewhere else in it that does more blacker blacks etc... I usually use a dual tone effect in PhotoImpact but it blows out the whites a bit.
