Quite a few times I'll bracket 5-7 exposures if I know there are a lot of shadows and high lights in the shot and then merge them in HDR Efex Pro to see how they turn out. Something I've played with on a few images has been converting them to B/W. It certainly gives it an interesting look. Does it look too fake? What do you guys think?

I am 9 months into owning a DSLR and if this is a look thats frowned upon (like overcooked HDR) I'd like to know.

What do you mean "a look that's frowned upon?"

Do you like it?

I think it looks great.

It has really dark darks and really light lights.

My eye is immediately drawn to the sun and then the fog.

Well, I know some people are touchy about HDR :) That's really what I meant by frowned upon. I don't think, at least, HDR in B/W stands out like over processed, oversaturated color HDR.

Thanks for taking a look!

Yeah I understand but first and foremost you have to shoot things you like and things that are interesting to you.

That's why I asked. If you like it and are interested in it then its worth trying.

That is one amazing photograph. I love the fog and how the sun shines through. HDR is a craft/skill you have to master, and I would say you’ve done a great job!
