Barcode recognition software?

I'm increasingly taking shots of community runs and cross-country athletics, and so it would be great if I could use some software to read a barcode on the race bib to automatically capture the runner's number.

Is anyone using software like that, and would you recommend it. Google doesn't turn up too many options, unfortunately.

Ask the race organizers what they use. I'm guessing that the software automatically comes with the reading device. You would probably want to get the same make as the organizers use. If you are going to purchase a reading device, make sure the software comes with it.

You would also need the information from the race officials. You can read the barcode but it wont mean diddly if you don't have access to the database it used to create the codes.

It's OK, I'll have the complete cooperation of the organisers. It's just down to getting a bar code onto the bib. Oh well, looks like I'll have to keep digging. Thanks Designer and Christina.
