What's new

bare bones photo management software?..recommendations?..

What is a good site for sharing photos and receiving critique and pointers?...

In some OS versions, Canon just supplies the "EOS Utility Updater" The updater isn't really the full utility... it's basically a patch the updates the version level (but it wont work unless the base software is already installed.)

The trouble is... the T3i is an older body and they no longer make software updates *specific* to that body ... but it turns out this doesn't matter. Even the newest Canon utility software works on those older bodies. What it does change is how you go about getting the software.

If you go to the support page for the T3i, you'll find you have to tell it you are still running Windows XP (remember that was the current os "at the time") to get the full version of the software. From there, you can just apply the updates (not sure if the Windows XP software installs on Windows 10... I'm on a mac so that's not something I can easily test.)

The other thing you can try is tell it you have a newer camera ... a T4i, T5i, T6i, etc. and see if you can find the EOS Solutions Disk download for a newer OS. It may not have Windows 10... but maybe it has Windows 7, etc. so at least it's newer than the Windows XP version. From there you can download the updater to bring the software up to the current revision.

When you do a download, they usually tell you to type in the serial number of the camera (they never used to do this... this is something they added maybe a year or two back and I'm not sure why since their software doesn't work with any other camera ... so what would be the point of downloading it if you didn't own a Canon camera?) Anyway, I *did* try to download the T7i Solutions Disk software by typing in the serial number of my 60Da (the 60Da was out at the same time as the T3i) and it refused to let me download (it didn't like my serial number). So this may take some trial and error (or maybe a phone call to Canon USA support). Your camera is so old that it is officially out of support ... but as you're not asking for a repair, you just want access to software... they *may* be able to find a way to get you the most current version.

Good luck!
