I saw this unexpectedly and ran to get my camera. Macro is not my thing and I'm not happy with the focus on these, but I had to share them anyway. This is the mating of a pair of praying mantis. She has relieved him of his head. I guess she didn't like his looks. I gather this is normal mantis behavior. Even without a head he still kept moving. It was weird to see. She seemed completely unconcerned with the whole affair and kept grooming herself. She would lick her front legs and comb them over her head and face, just like a cat. Finally she walked off and shook him from her body. He was now finally dead. Interesting but kinda creepy too.

the reason your dof is so thin is because you were so close. Just back out a little and do digital crop if you really need the DOF.
