Not very good at macro stuff....I used my 18-105 kit lens and a macro ring for these....let me know what you think....thanks

Not bad! You picked up some pretty good detail for that type of rig! Not quite as sharp as a dedicated Macro lens would give you, but better than I thought the 18-105 would do! It might would have helped to stop down a few more stops.. say F16, as you didn't need a shutter speed of 1/1600 for this shot. You would have been fine @ 1/200 or so. Could have dropped ISO a stop too...

Thanks a bunch....still learning even I was shocked that the kit lens would be this clear.....lol
 
Two soid macro shots. Why are you so surprised that your kit lens could produce this quality, after all it's a Nikkor? Stopping down to f16 or greater will even add to the effectiveness of the picture with greater DOF.
 
I think you did very well. Look forward to seeing more of your work.
 
Actually these are some very decent shots and especially for not using a macro lens.

Thanks again...I had the shutter so high because these were done hand held...no tripod
