yes... it was a crappy job on photoshop... since i dont use P/S very much at all considering im a dark room printer.... and im starting digital now

Great job on all of these! But you forgot to get rid of some powerlines over the middle building in your first set.

May be I will be against people who leave here comments, but I will add my five cents. In my private opinion pictures “after” worst then “before”. Why? We have color, light, focus and composition to put an attention to some point(s) of picture. First target is to find an idea of every picture. What I want to say with this picture. How I can support this idea? What I can(should) use for it. You did in these pictures nice saturation and contrast, but --- you did it for full picture. And this (on my opinion) is wrong. You should use a mask(s) before apply these effects. For example desaturate background on second one. Make sky darker on the first one. To fix a geometry(perspective distortion) problem on third instead of working with color. But this again, is my private opinion.

I have to agree with emayd. You chose a good amount of contrast and saturation, but it cannot be applied universally to the image. You have blown highlights in each image. Use adjustment layers whenever you can.

do you think that the point in the blown highlights was a purpose when i photoshopped these images?i always shoot with a plan... i dont just snap shot.. half of these shots are pre-drawn.. lighting times written down.. all for a reason.. then to add contrast to the images is what i chose to do... remember, im a 90% film shooter.... over half of the film im shooting now is in the studio... but when i do my own thing, i purposely add contrast... why? cuz i like contrast... so you got to remember that im working in my own opinion in the way "I" want to do things... not that your comments dont mean anything.. but i have things planned when i shoot them..

hey everyone, chill for a second. Prelude, i hate to nag but emayd and Digital Matt are just giving suggestions to help with your next photoshop work. Like emayd said, it's her private opinion, and some people like different styles of pictures. Matt isn't forcing you to change your pics. by the way, love them all, especially the third. Tell me, since I'm a total n00b, do you just expose a shot for like 2 seconds when you want cars to appear like a smeared line of light?? Cuz that's the effect I want to try but I don't know how.

This is a general gallery for sharing your photos and getting feedback.

Just giving you some feedback, and I in no way said or implied that these were unplanned, snapshots. I also never said you shouldn't have added contrast. In fact, I said you added a good amount of contrast. I like contrasty images. Let me clarify; In my "opinion", the areas with blown highlights would look better to me if they were closer to how they are in the originals, where I can see some detail.

If you like them the way they are, then just say so. You don't have to get angry. You have to expect when you post pictures on a public forum, that people will tell you what they think about them. That's why we are all here.

you guys do realize that i accepted the feedback.. i was just stating that i do stuff for a reason... also considering that the instructors at my school give me more feedback thats 10 times worse, this sites no prob... i wasnt mad at the comments.. i was just stating my purpose... im also sure that if the same thing happened to you, you would say the same thing...

probably not. most of us understand we don't please everyone's taste when we post an image and receiving constructive criticism is inevitable. how you respond is the key to learning more about this art.

taking criticism can be difficult. it's like a horse pill - good for you but very hard to swallow. i believe that the ability to accept constructive criticism is one of the most important traits of a developing photographer. this is especially true for those who have already finished their formal schooling or have been in the field for quite sometime. as you already know, in school we get all the criticism we could ever ask for and much more. but after you finish your school work, you'll find that sometimes you can't even pay people for their criticism (helpful, constructive criticism that is). that's why these forums are worth the time in gold!

just speaking for myself, i can honestly say that the most significant changes i've made in my picture taking, over the last ten years, would not have been possible without constructive criticism from my peers. i've picked up on countless tips...some i've used, some not; because like you i preferred my result better.

again, how you receive criticism will determine how you will develop in the end. you should know this...you've been around here for some time now.

your shots and style are good! keep posting!
