Beginner with Nikon D3100

I am new to TPF as well as to photography so any tips are appreciated! I just got a D3100 and want to get right into using the manual settings. I took a few photos over the weekend but nothing worth posting at this point as I was just getting used to handling the camera. I hope to take some photos soon so I can post and get some CC! I am really excited especially here in NY when fall arrives it is going tobe such a great time to take photos!

I want to learn more about applying manual settings and working with depth of field and aperture but I need to learn adjusting the shutter speed to the aperture.
