Hello people! I am wanting to buy Adobe Photoshop but I'm not sure which version to get. I've seen some bad reviews of CS6, should I go for CS5? I'd love to just subscribe to creative cloud but that's not an option for me atm. So what version of PS would you suggest? I already have Lightroom for basic RAW processing.

Is buying PS of the shelf not more expensive then CC ?

I previously had LR 4 and CS 5, but wasn't willing to pay the Initial $50 a month for the cloud. Now adobe offers PS CC and LR 5.6 (plus future upgrades) for $10 a month in the "photographer" package.
I got it a week ago and have been very pleased. It's $10 well spent to keep up on newest versions of LR and PS.

Having had both CS 5 and CS 6 I would definitely recommend CS 6.

Neither CS 6/Camera Raw 7 (Photoshop 13) nor CS 5/Camera Raw 6 (Photoshop 12) are supported by Adobe.
Adobe started using their Mercury Graphics Engine with CS 6.

Photoshop CC (Photoshop 14) is now is Photoshop CC 2014 (Photoshop 15) - it's second version.
Note that Photoshop CC combined both Photoshop and Photoshop Extended. Photoshop Extended had a retail price of $999 and an Upgrade price of $349.
Photoshop Extended had 3-D and scientific functions Photoshop CS 3, 4, 5, and 6 lacked.

You do not have to pay for the Photoshop Photography Program monthly, you can pay for 1 year at a time - $119.88

I bought a boxed and previously unregistered copy of CS5 on Ebay and have had no problems with it.

Frankly, I have most versions , but I still favor cs2 as I like the layout, but it is certainly more limiting in the newer features. However, it is free ,but not supported anymore so if you have a new camera type and want to shoot raw it isn't going to work.

If you just do basic stuff, you might want to try it out.
