Better Shots

hey guys,

So my wife is in the beginning of her labor with our first child.. I want to take some awesome shots because we are having the birth at home in a birthing pool which is located in the living room... I'm pretty strapped for cash and she has been out of work for the past year and i am only able to get part time work thanks to this wonderful economy. Im looking at getting a nifty fifty, would you guys recommend buying a used one or would you say just hold out because that is something stupid. I am a novice so I would not know what to look for as far as lens problems or flaws other than dust specks in the glass.

I bought a Nikon 50mm 1.8 off craigslist for $60. really can't go wrong there.

Nothing wrong with going used as long as it hasn't been abused.

+1 on craigslist.
BUT, depending on the size of your living room 50might be to tight and you'd need wider angle.
