This one is a bit noisy, but still not a half bad shot in my opinion. I had to hurry and get the camera ready, and I switched the camera to A-DEP instead of M when I turned the selector.

I was creeping up on this heron, and he took off. I had no time to compose the shot, so this one was more luck than anything. Opinions?

great shot, I think it would benefit from some cropping

I viewed on flickr....nice capture..in hurry...Yes I wud like too to have the bird more closer. tfs.

yes.. Crop!

I took this photo of one

you fail before sucsess

You certainly need to crop this.

Why did you opt to shoot at a focal length of 55 mm instead of 200 mm to get closer? You also used f4 instead of stopping down for more DOF. When working out in the field, you need to be ready to shoot other then having the camera up at eye level, but should be close. Nature doesn't wait for us.

I like this shot... I would crop most of that tree on the left directing more focus on the bird. I have found Herons to be very shy birds and not easy to get close to. They have a amusing habit of grumbling at you, in an annoyed sort of way, when you invade their space.... :)
