Im an idependent book store fan myself... Four walls, a roof, lots of mags, coffee, great atmosphere...Square Books is the place and they can get things to you just as fast as amazon..without paying the shipping.

Same here. Spend hours at the local Barnes and Noble during the weekends. If I need to buy something, I get it from their website = no tax, free shipping and a further Citigroup employee discount (my wife works with the Cgroup).

:edit: Just realized that there is no tax waiver. It is with B&H that they exclude the tax. Got it mixed up.

We usually go to Borders, though I have ordered from Amazon before and have been quite pleased. I like to browse through a real store, I really miss this old Science Fiction/Fantasy & Myserty store that is in Minneapolis called Uncle Edgars & Uncle Hugos. I could spend hours in there just browsing. Stacks and stacks of books (mostly used) and the most knowledgeable sales people. I will have to stop there this June when I am in MN for a visit.

there are no good book stores online in NZ, most of the books i read are quite obscure. Its actually cheaper buying them off amazon online than in the actually bookstores here even with the exhange rate and GST  If fact I am going to buy couple o' books this afternoon - ta for the reminder Daniel :) yes its usually amazon unless bn has a much better deal

wow....didn't know amazon had a such a a heavy following!
no wonder why it was not hit by the dot com tsunami.
