Book - Advanced PSE 6 - question

I have a question for those of you using the book Advanced photoshop elements 6 for digital photographers by Philip Andrews.
On page 127, he gives instructions on how to download "photoshop donor documents" he created for use in PSE6. Namely selective color, convert to grey, curves and split tone.
I already have curves from another source but would like to use these others as well, so I downloaded them.
He says to use them you just open the files in elements and drag the required adjustment to the element file and the enhancement is applied.
I'm having difficulties doing this. Do I have to have both my image and the adjustment layers open at the same time? If so, how do I do that. I can't figure out how to have them both open. I have them both loaded into the workspace but I can't drag to the workspace.
Help!

I googled "photoshop donor documents" and this is what I found......a little confusing, but it may answer what you want to know.

Trouble is, it doesn't tell you how to use it once you have it downloaded, it only says to drag it to the document. I can't figure out how to have the image open and the documents open at the same time, it won't let me toggle back and forth.

First open the .psd file then try selecting all of your image and draging it to the .psd image.

I do not have a true solution, but try this anyway.
