Bouncing your camera's on-board flash

Saw this the other day to bounce the on-board flash.

It seems a lot of DSLR users wait quite a while before buying into flash photography. This seemed like a decent alternative until then. Fits most of the usual suspects.

I wouldn't get too excited. A typical GOOD on camera flash has a guide number of 10-12, a typical Strobe like the Nikon SB-800 or Canon 530ex has guide numbers between 53-58.

For this to work you'd want white ceilings no more than 2.8m high and no natural light to fight, wide aperture and reasonable ISO. Yes it would look better than a normal flash photo, but you will hit the power limit of the on board flash VERY quickly.

Yeah, that kind of thing won't work too well with on board flash simply because the on board flash is far too weak. It will puish the camera to the limits to get it....
