Bringing Back Writing

I have an old photo that has an illegible name written on the front of it with ink. Is there a good way to work out the name with software?

If it is smudged maybe not but if just faint yes. I'd use a scan, 80-100 mb 16-bit tiff to start with and various tricks in Photoshop to bring out the name.

I spent 8 hours restoring a scanned 1917 print that had tears, stains, spots. Did it in photoshop using spot healing brush, clone tool, content aware fill where each was needed. My 16x20 print is impeccable.

It truly is amazing what can be done digitally now with PS. I've been using PS since the late 90's but I still learn new tricks.
I'll post some examples in the other section for digital.

webestang64, yes. After nearly 20 years of PS, I still am not as comfortable with LR and it is sooo much easier to use.
