Brown Pelican

Was at Tempe Town Lake here in Phoenix, AZ and spoted this guy on the dock. Apparently it isn't totally uncommon to see in Arizona (behing that we don't have
a large body of saltwater near by).

He is also in his breeding plumage

I did a quick Google search, and Pelicans do indeed feed on Shad in freshwater.

Looks a bit underexposed.. and shooting in portrait would have emphasized the bird. Nice shot!
