The 1800.00 for the Nikon 24-70 2.8 is not in the budget right now....what other options do I have more in the 500-700 ranges...I have done some reserch and read alot of articles....looking for friendly real world experience

Any sugestions

Saving is an option, but would really love to use it before i go blind from old age...lol

I really like my Sigma 17-70 and it's in your price range.

Midrange? I'd check the tamron 28-70 or an older Nikon 35-70... You can find it for under $500

I have the Tamron (28-70 f/2.8) and while I'm no pro (yet ;-) ) I really like it. I got it new from adorama for around $470. I am using it on my 7D.

I love finding my answers in other peoples threads!

But the Tokina 28-70 is a full frame lens. Is it worth using on a DX camera?

The old Nikon 35-70 f2.8 is around $400 and just as sharp as the new 24-70 f2.8.

Also more compact, semi macro (very close focussing) and all metal construction.

Note: 35-70 or 24(28)-70 is not very wide on a DX format body. I think the op might be wanting something a bit wider for his D7000, hence the 17-50(ish) recommendations.

Just be warned: the 35-70mm 2.8 hasn't aged well--about half the examples I've seen have had fogged/hazed up inner elements. If you get a perfect example it's a great lens.
