Buy Land on the Moon (one of my more unique clients)

no its not a hoax, they actually have total legal basis for it. We thought the idea was a bit crazy at first ourselves, but our client was able to to elequently explain the situation behind lunar real estate to us. From the website:

What is the basis on which Lunar Realty sells land on the Moon?

There are several parts to this answer. Firstly Lunar Realty obtains land from the Lunar Embassy in good faith and on-sells to you on exactly the same basis. Secondly Lunar Realty has an exclusive license agreement with the Lunar Embassy as the only authorised re-seller in Australia and New Zealand.

Contrary to popular belief, ownership of extraterrestrial properties is not forbidden. The 1967 UN Outer Space Treaty stipulates that no government can own extraterrestrial property, but it neglected to mention individuals or corporations. In 1979 the UN attempted to address this omission ( which they were well aware of ) by introducing the ill-fated Moon Treaty. That treaty forbids the exploitation of extraterrestrial resources (including ownership ) by anyone, inclusive of private organizations or individuals. The only problem was that, when the treaty came up for vote, only six of the 185 UN Member Nations actually ratified it. The reality is that the developed world and in particular those countries who had already committed billions of dollars in space exploration, did not wish to see potential commercial exploitation outlawed. As a consequence the vast majority of countries did not support the treaty and did not sign it, meaning that the loophole still exists today. The USA explicitly refused to sign, as it would have inhibited commercial exploitation in any format.
