I'm getting a new Nikon 70-200, but I'm not sure if I should just pull the trigger and get it or if prices will go down once stock becomes more available. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

What makes you think the prices will go down? I'm not aware the stocks are down, but then again, I already have mine. What is your source?

Just an anecdote, I bought my VR1 version at ~$1700USD. Six months later or so the VR2 version came out +$700. I might loose $200 on the original price after having it for 3 years. But I won't loose because that sucka is staying in my bag.

My source is admittedly unreliable. It was a guy I work with.

Looks like I'm getting myself a very nice birthday present!

One can never predict with absolute certainty when the price of a current desirable product will be at its lowest. Only hindsight will tell you when it was at its lowest. So the price when you buy might be at its lowest, or not, you'll only be able to tell sometime later, near the end of its product cycle.

If you are comfortable with the price of the lens now and you want it now, then buy it now.
