Buying new lens for my D40 - help?

Yeah, I think so too. That post wasn't meant to call you out; it was a general post even though I quoted you. It was mostly to the others who seemed to be confused that the 70-200mm acts as a 300mm on DX bodies. Somehow they interpreted it as the DX body actually makes the lens physically longer.

... hey I thought of a great idea to solve the focal length problem ... make only Full-Frame sensor'd DSLR's.

There are too many sensor sizes now ... 1.4x, 1.5x, 1.6x ... though I do appreciate the fact that my 300mm lens appears to be a 450mm ... though I could have bought a Sony a900 and just cropped the image
