Cable Release (Remote Control) for 400D

So I just got a Canon 400D and I enjoy night photography. I want to get a cable release or the Remote Controller as they call it. I want to be able to use the bulb function with out holding down a button. Does anyone know if you can do this with the inferred remotes (such as the Canon RC-1)? Otherwise I am going to get a tethered one. Thanks!!
