I'm doing my first cake smash on Monday.

I said I would never do a cake smash because well, they kind of gross me out a little bit, but mom begged me, so I said yes.

First my equipment.

I have a roll of white seamless, a backdrop stand, my D90, a SB-600, triggers, umbrellas (shoot through, white or silver) and a 35mm or 50mm.

I'm thinking to use my 35 and have my flash set up to shoot at the seamless and just use reflector/natural light for the kid?

Any tips would be appreciated!
Thanks again
Crystal

My first suggestion: Be careful with the cake icing on the paper. Stick with the most neutral colors you can unless you have a VERY good way to clean the paper or unless you plan on only using that paper for cake smashes in the future.

As far as lighting goes, standard studio lighting should be fine. I personally prefer natural light in general, but if it's not available, it sounds like you're covered :)
