Calling all portrait photographers!

Designer, Yeah, I was speaking more conceptually, aware that volume is not a property of a print, or photography in general. Although I did have a friend who took wildflower photos who kept charts about rainfall and air temperatures in order to be able to find flowers at their peak, sort of incorporating time (beyond shutter speed) as another factor in his work.
 
I'm not a portrait shooter. I don't even play one on TV. But the simplest answer to the original question is get an 85 or 105 lens.
Everything I know says that is better than 50mm.
